1. Medication

Answering the question of “what medicine is right for me?”

One component unique to a Medical Weight Loss program is…medication. Like most other components related to weight loss, there are multiple philosophies medical doctors use when choosing a medication to help you reach your weight loss goals. Because of the multiple options available, this can often lead to confusion and the question, “Which one is right for me?” While all medications have specific benefits, there are potential issues and side effects that can occur when medications are not chosen/prescribed correctly, or not used as prescribed. Unfortunately, many clinics only offer one medication option to all patients regardless of their patient history their physical, mental or emotional physiology, and their past response to other weight loss programs. To determine what medication is best for you, it is essential that all biological and physical factors have been taken into account by a specifically trained and licensed medical doctor…because one size does NOT fit all.

At FitMD, we are committed to finding the RIGHT medication for you, and to have you on medication for as short a time as possible. While we understand the importance medication can play in a weight loss program, we won’t prescribe or dispense any mediation until we’ve met with you and done a complete history and examination (assuming you need medication as part of your weight loss program). Additionally, you can count on us to help you know when it’s time to transition from one weight loss medication to another, to decrease the dosage, or to eliminate medication from your program altogether. At the end of the day, medication should be used to help patients gain the momentum and the confidence they need to lose weight while they learn the lifestyle skills that will create the long-lasting change you want and deserve.

2. Nutrition

Making food habits simple and easy to implement

With so many diets out there, what to eat, when to eat (and not eat) and what supplements to take becomes an overwhelming exercise in frustration. Even if you take the time to wade through all the marketing and pseudoscience, the topics of timing, calorie counting, and macronutrient balancing are enough to confuse even the most committed soul. We are big believers that for any weight loss program to be successful, the concept of food must be two things; simple and easy to implement.

At Fit MD, our approach is exactly that – to make nutrition simple and easy. We work to take the difficulty and complexity of food choice, calorie counting, etc. off the table so you can focus on the physical, mental and emotional components of weight loss. While each weight loss program is customized for the individual it serves, many start with a complete nutritional support system that allow for maximum nutritional intake with minimal, but satisfying, calorie consumption which leads to FASTER WEIGHT LOSS! (Don’t worry, we also look at our complete nutritional support system as a temporary tool while we give you the knowledge you need to confidently move forward).

You’ll get one-on-one, personalized coaching so as your needs change, so does your nutritional plan. Meal types and overall caloric intake is adjusted based on body weight, food preferences and exercise volume, type and intensity. Our goal is that by the end of your program, you have the education and eating habits that allow you to eat for health at home, restaurants, and even special events like parties and BBQs.

3. Movement

Finding the exercise regimen you WANT to stick with

At some point in time, weight loss became closely linked to grueling workouts at the gym and endless amounts of cardio – two things most people don’t necessarily love. Many who have a burning desire to lose weight find themselves uncomfortable in a gym setting for a variety of reasons (not knowing what to do, being embarrassed, not feeling “fit” enough, etc.), or find their workouts painful and hard on their joints. Fortunately, weight loss (especially if the goal is to lose 20 or more pounds) does not require high-intensity exercise. In fact, there are certain times that “less is more” when it comes to movement. Movement becomes a bigger player in the game once the desired weight loss goal is met and the patient is looking to maintain their new body weight.

We help you find ways to move that are both enjoyable and fit into your lifestyle rather than trying to “jam” exercise into your busy life. Before beginning any sort of fitness routine, we find it important and necessary to define a starting point so we can make proper recommendations rooted in science. Things we take into consideration are past injuries, training experience, your goals and your preferences…in other words…it’s completely tailored for you!

From the very first training session, you’ll work alongside a certified coach with a degree in Exercise Science as you work to build your exercise library and leave your sessions armed with the necessary tools to make movement a lifelong habit.
